💰Grants are provided to promote research aimed at addressing various problems in the interest of the state through scientific research. | - Academic scientists from government or private colleges/universities/research institutes/technical institutions, and research scholars across the state are eligible to participate.

Scheme for Promoting Young Talents in Science-I

The scheme “Scheme for Promoting Young Talents in Science-I (SPYTiS-I)” is constituted for the purpose of providing financial and technical assistance to talented young students who have innovative ideas in scientific/technological pursuits.

💰Groups of a maximum of 5 students of Class VIII-XII from a school will be selected for financial assistance of up to ₹5,000/- for doing a science project. | - Financial assistance will be provided to the host school and the students have to work under the guidance/supervision of a teacher. | - Awardees are encouraged to participate in the Science Talent Fair, National Children’s Science Congress, or Kerala Science Congress organized by KSCSTE to present their projects/findings. | - The duration of the project is one year.

Scheme for Promoting Young Talents in Science-II

The scheme “Scheme for Promoting Young Talents in Science-II (SPYTiS-II)” is constituted for the purpose of providing financial and technical assistance to talented young students who have innovative ideas in scientific/technological pursuits.

💰Students who have innovative ideas in science & technology are enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate courses in colleges will be provided financial assistance up to ₹10,000/- for conducting projects. | - Financial assistance will be provided to the host institution and the students have to work under the guidance/supervision of a teacher. | - Awardees are encouraged to participate in the Science Talent Fair, National Children’s Science Congress, or Kerala Science Congress organized by KSCSTE to present their projects/findings. | - The duration of the project is one year. | - Under the scheme, no major equipment for research will be granted. Minor equipment, if found necessary, will be granted only to an institution in the State. In such a case, the budget for minor equipment shall be limited to 30% of the maximum eligible amount. Further, all permanent assets evolved from the project shall be the assets of the institution.

Science Communication and Popularization

The scheme aims to promote scientific thinking and awareness among citizens by providing support and funding to educational institutions, R&D organizations, and NGOs to organize science communication activities.

💰Popularization of Science is one of the key programs initiated by the Council to promote scientific temper among the citizens of Uttarakhand, particularly the youth. A number of activities are conducted under this program. | The Council provides financial assistance for organizing various events such as seminars, workshops, and conferences. It also organizes popular lectures and celebrates National Science Day.

It aims to provide students from classes 6 to 12 of government/non-government schools in six border districts of the state (Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Champawat, Bageshwar,Pithoragarh) with an opportunity to participate in science competitions & to promote scientific awareness in these areas.

💰Under this, special opportunities are provided to child scientists from the border hill districts to participate in various state-level science competitions and to promote scientific awareness through activities in remote border areas.

SERB Research Scientist Scheme

SERB Board has launched a new ‘SERB Research Scientist (SRS) Scheme’ for the awardees of INSPIRE Faculty and Ramanujan Fellowships, who fail to secure regular positions after completion of the regular tenure of five years in the respective schemes.

💰The “SERB Research Scientists” will be entitled to receive the grants as given below: | Sl. The system aims to develop and promote an innovative solar-based hydroponic system that integrates solar energy with modern greenhouse technology and mobile application support.

💰A solar-based hydroponic system has been installed at UCOST Dehradun. | The solar-based hydroponic system is the latest research in the state, in which an innovative and integrated solar greenhouse-based hydroponic solution and an Android mobile application have been developed for farmers and consumers. | Benefit: The automated solar-based hydroponic system will reduce energy consumption, minimize water usage, and enhance crop yields. The system also has the potential to serve as an entrepreneurial or business model and can be replicated in other Himalayan states, thereby creating improved livelihood opportunities for hill farmers and youth. | Smaller off-grid models of solar-based hydroponic systems, proposed to be developed in addition to on-grid systems, can be installed in remote areas where electricity supply is a major issue. This would help increase the individual income of hill farmers.

Training/Capacity Building Programmes/Research work on Remote Sensing and GIS Applications

The scheme aims to strengthen scientific and technical capacity of researchers, students, and government personnel in the field of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications by providing training, conducting capacity-building programmes, and supporting research initiatives.

💰Researchers are selected for scientific research projects funded by the Central and State Governments and trained in Remote Sensing and GIS applications. The training is provided free of cost. Selected researchers (JRFs/SRFs/Project Scientists) receive stipends (including HRA) as per the regulations of the respective funding organizations. Researchers are required to make their own arrangements for food and accommodation. | - The program also offers training in Remote Sensing and GIS applications to postgraduate students in their final semester/year of study at various universities across the state, as well as to undergraduate students through internships. The training is free of cost, and students are expected to arrange their own food and accommodation during the training period. | - Capacity-building programs in Remote Sensing and GIS are organized periodically for various line departments based on their requirements. No participation fees are charged from these departments. Boarding and lodging during these programs are arranged by the concerned departments with the support of U-SAC. | - Workshops on Geographic Information Systems are also organized periodically in degree colleges and schools across the state, as per requests and requirements, to motivate students towards space technology. U-SAC provides free one-day training sessions along with complimentary meals and transportation; however, accommodation is not provided.
