It aims to promote scientific awareness among students, teachers, and the general public by conducting outreach programmes and activities in various fields of science through both online and offline modes, thereby making science education and research more accessible across the state.

💰In order to make the benefits of science education and research accessible to every individual in the state, information regarding the development of scientific consciousness and the dissemination of scientific knowledge among students, teachers, and the general public through online and offline mediums is disseminated through various social media sites, USERC Science Awareness Centres (currently 200 in the state), and USERC Nodal Officers working in higher education.

Dr. D.S. Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowships In Sciences

Dr. D.S. Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowships in Sciences was introduced by the UGC. In addition to the existing RA/PDF positions provided by various funding agencies, a need was felt for a PDF scheme running in a flexible mode, with fast track, online handling, and decision-making.

💰Financial Assistance: | The tenure of the award is three years with no provision for further extension. The financial assistance available under the scheme is as follows: | Fellowship: | @ Rs. 43,800/- pm for I year | @ Rs.45,000/- pm for II year | @ Rs. 46,500/- pm for III year | Contingency: | @Rs.1,00,000/-p.a. | HRA: | - Suitable hostel accommodation may be provided to the candidates in the institutions. In such cases, the fellow is eligible to draw only hostel fees excluding mess, electricity, water charges, etc. A certificate to this effect is to be furnished through the Registrar/Director/Principal. HRA is not permissible for those candidates who are staying in Hostel accommodation. | - In case of non-availability of hostel accommodation, the fellow may be provided with single accommodation by the host institution. In such cases, the rent paid by the fellow on an actual basis may be reimbursed subject to the ceiling of HRA as per Govt. of India norms. | - If the fellow makes her own arrangements of accommodation, he/she may be entitled to draw HRA as per the categorization of cities by the Govt. of India. | Medical: | No separate/fixed medical assistance is provided. However, the Post-Doctoral Fellow may avail of the medical facilities available in the University/Institution/College. | Leave: | - Leave for a maximum period of 30 days in a year in addition to public holidays may be taken by the Post-Doctoral Fellow with the approval of the Head of the Department. However, they are not entitled to any other vacations, such as summer, winter, and pooja vacations. | - Candidates are eligible for maternity/ paternity to leave at full rates of the fellowship as per Government of India rules once during the tenure of the award. | - The fellow, in special cases, may be allowed by the Commission, academic leave without fellowship and contingency for a period not exceeding one year during the tenure of the award on the recommendation of the Head of the department of the institution concerned to undertake academic/ teaching assignment or foreign travel in connection with academic work. The expenditure on travel cannot be claimed from UGC. The period of leave without fellowship will be counted towards the tenure.

The scheme aims to establish STEM laboratories in schools across Uttarakhand to provide students of classes 6 to 12 with hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning opportunities and strengthen their practical understanding of scientific concepts.

💰Under this, 41 STEM laboratories have been established across the state to strengthen practical science education for secondary and higher secondary level students and to provide hands-on learning activities for students of classes 6 to 12, enabling them to conduct science-related experiments in these labs.

Hands-on Training and Exposure Visits under Experiential Learning

The scheme aims to provide free one-week residential hands-on certificate training programs to undergraduate, postgraduate students, researchers, and faculty members, including accommodation and meals.

💰Free residential one-week hands-on training (certificate programme) sessions are being organized on various subjects to provide practical knowledge to the researchers, professors, and students of the state in collaboration with various institutions, in which UG/PG students, researchers, and teachers from higher education institutions across all districts of the state are participating. Meals are also provided free of cost during this residential training.

Junior Research Fellowship In Engineering & Technology

The scheme "Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology" by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Department of Higher Education is meant for candidates who wish to pursue research leading to a Ph.D. degree in engineering and technology.

💰NATURE OF ASSISTANCE | - The tenure of the fellowship is initially for a period of two years as a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). | - After the expiry of two years the work of the fellow will be evaluated by experts and if found satisfactory, his/her tenure will be extended for a further period of three years with enhanced emoluments as a Senior Research Fellowship (SRF). | - In case the work of the fellow for the first two years is not found satisfactory, one more year will be given to him/her for improvement, but during this period he/she will be designated as a Junior Research Fellow. In such cases work will again be evaluated after three years, and if the improvement is found, the fellow will get two more years under the SRF. | - Thus, the total period of fellowship (JRF and SRF) is five years, which is non-extendable. The awardee can avail research fellowship for the full tenure of the fellowship or up to the date of award of the Ph.D. degree, whichever is earlier. | The assistance available under the scheme is: | Fellowship @ Rs. 14,000/- p.m. for the initial two years, @ Rs.15,000/- for the remaining period | Contingency @ Rs.12,000/- p.a. for the initial two years, @Rs.25,000/- p.a. for the remaining period | Departmental Assistance @ Rs. 3,000/- p.a. per student to the host institute for providing, infrastructure to the researcher | Escorts/Reader Assistance @Rs.2,000/- p.m. in cases of physically handicapped and blind candidates | HRA As per the rule of the concerned institution | House Rent Allowance: | Suitable single-seated hostel accommodation in the institutions may be provided to the Fellow, failing which HRA as per rules of the university/institution | will be paid, subject to the submission of the HRA certificate through the registrar/principal. Research Fellows provided with accommodation in hostels recognized/maintained by the institutions may be reimbursed the hostel fee, excluding mess, electricity and water charges, etc. A certificate to this effect is to be furnished through the registrar/principal (Annexure I). If the Fellow makes his/her own arrangements of accommodation, he/she may be entitled to draw HRA as per the categorization of cities by the Government of India. The Fellow will submit a certificate to UGC for claiming HRA through the concerned university/institution/college. | Medical: | No separate/fixed medical assistance is provided. However, the fellow may avail the medical facilities available in the institution/university. | Leave: | Research Fellows are entitled to a maximum period of 30 days leave in a year in addition to public holidays. They are not entitled to any other leave, for example, summer, winter, pooja vacations, etc. Women candidates are eligible for maternity leave of 135 days at full rates of fellowship once during the tenure of their award. | Note-1: The Research Fellow, in special cases, may be allowed by the Commission, to leave without fellowship for up to one academic year during the entire tenure of the award for accepting teaching assignments on a temporary basis, provided the assignment is in the same city/town. | Note-2: In other cases, leave without fellowship will be restricted to a period not exceeding three months during the tenure of the award on the recommendations of the supervisor and the head of the institution. | Note-3: The period of leave without fellowship will be counted towards the total tenure of the fellowship. | Note-4: Fellows are advised to apply for leave through their university/institution/college well in advance for the approval of the Commission.

Junior Research Fellowship In Sciences, Humanities, And Social Sciences

The scheme of Junior Research Fellowship in Sciences, Humanities, and Social Science by UGC, Dept. of Education, is open to candidates who qualify for the National Eligibility Test-Junior Research Fellowship(NET-JRF) of the UGC and the UGC-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (UGC-CSIR).

💰Fellowship Amount: | Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): ₹37,000 per month for 2 years | Senior Research Fellowship (SRF): ₹42,000 per month for the remaining period | Contingency A (for Humanities & Social Sciences): | ₹10,000 per annum for JRF | ₹20,500 per annum for SRF | Contingency B (for Science Scholars): | ₹12,000 per annum for JRF | ₹25,000 per annum for SRF | Housing Rent Allowance (HRA) | (HRA is provided as per the categorization of cities by the Government of India.) | Hostel Accommodation: | - If suitable single-seated hostel accommodation is provided by the institution, the fellow is eligible to receive only hostel fees (excluding mess, electricity, water charges, etc.). | - A certificate confirming this must be furnished through the Registrar/Director/Principal. | - HRA is not permissible for fellows staying in hostel accommodation. | Alternative Accommodation: | - If hostel accommodation is not available, the fellow may be provided with single accommodation by the host institution. | - In such cases, rent paid by the fellow may be reimbursed on an actual basis, subject to the HRA ceiling set by the Government of India. | Self-Arranged Accommodation: | - If the fellow arranges her own accommodation, she is entitled to HRA as per the Government of India's city categorization norms. | Medical Facilities | - No separate or fixed medical assistance is provided under the fellowship. | - However, the fellow may avail of the medical facilities available at the institution, university, or college. | Leave Policy | General Leave: | - Fellows are entitled to a maximum of 30 days of leave per year, in addition to public holidays. | - They are not entitled to any additional vacations. | Maternity/Paternity Leave: | - Maternity/Paternity leave is granted as per Government of India norms, at full fellowship rates, once during the tenure of the fellowship. | Intermittent Break (For Women Candidates Only): | - Women candidates may avail an intermittent break of up to one year (maximum three times during the fellowship). | - The total break period must not exceed one year. | - This period will not be counted toward the tenure of the fellowship, ensuring that the fellowship duration remains the same. | Academic Leave: | - Academic leave without fellowship is permissible for one year during the fellowship tenure. | - This leave can be availed for academic assignments, teaching, or foreign visits related to research work. | - The period of leave without fellowship will be counted towards the tenure. | - Expenditure for foreign visits related to research work cannot be claimed from UGC. | Tenure of Fellowship: | These are integrated five-year fellowships for M.Phil. and Ph.D. subject academic criteria in force for selection of Ph.D. program. Prime Minister’s Fellowship for Doctoral Research scheme is a prestigious initiative of Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India towards the advancement of university research engagements in line with industry requirement.

💰Under this scheme, full-time PhD scholars get double the JRF/SRF fellowship amount, as a scholarship. | - The scheme has the provision to award up to 100 new scholarships every year. One-half of this scholarship comes from the government; the second half comes from a partner company that also works closely with the candidate on the research project.

Ramanujan Fellowship

"Ramanujan Fellowship" was started by the Science and Engineering Research Board, Govt. of India for brilliant Indian scientists and engineers from outside India to take up scientific research positions in India, those Indian scientists/engineers who want to return to India from abroad.

💰The amount of the Fellowship will be ₹1,35,000/- per month (consolidated including HRA). | - Each Fellow will, in addition, receive a research grant of ₹7.00 lakh per annum (for consumables, travel, research personnel & contingencies, etc.) and ₹60,000/- per annum as overhead charges. | - The Ramanujan Fellows will be eligible to receive regular research grants through the extramural funding schemes of various S&T agencies of the Government of India.

VAIBHAV Fellowship envisages collaboration between scientists of Indian Diaspora with | Indian Higher Educational Institutions/Universities/Public Funded Scientific | Institutions. Fellow would identify an Indian Institution for collaboration & | may spend upto two months in a year for a max. of 3 years.

💰Emoluments for the Fellowship: | - Fellowship in ₹4,00,000/- roughly (equivalent to USD 5000 per month), for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of up to 2 months per year for a period of a maximum of 3 years, | - International Travel from place of work in parent institute to place of work in India in business class once a year, | - Fully furnished Accommodation in the guest house or hotel up to ₹7500/- per day, | - Contingency ₹1,00,000 per year for research expenditure in India | - Domestic Travel (economy class) for academic purposes up to two Indian academic/scientific institutes in a year. | Note: It may be noted that the total eligible grant will be released to the Indian host Institute and these institutes will be providing a Fellowship amount to the VAIBHAV Fellow and extend other support. | Institutional Financial Support: | The financial support (up to ₹5 Lakhs per year for 3 years) will be given to the host institution to facilitate the VAIBHAV fellow for research work as per DST norms. Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty Scheme

VAJRA Faculty Scheme is a dedicated program exclusively for overseas scientists and academicians with emphasis on NRI and Persons of Indian Origin/Overseas Citizen of India to work as adjunct/visiting faculty for a specific period of time in Indian Public funded academic and research institutions.

💰The residency period of VAJRA Faculty in India would be for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 3 months. | - VAJRA Faculty will be provided US$ 15000 in the first month of engagement and US$ 10000 p.m. in the subsequent two months. While no separate support is provided for travel, accommodation, medical/personal insurance, etc. the host institute may consider providing additional support. | - Return visit of Indian faculty to the Institute of VAJRA Faculty: One research visit by the Indian host to the Institute of the VAJRA Faculty for a period not less than a week and not exceeding 30 days will be supported. The board will provide return economy airfare, not exceeding ₹1.5 lakhs per diem, and accommodation as per the norms of the Board. 1. Student mobility (Doctoral & Postdoctoral Level: Across labs): Collaborative research visit of not more than 2 students, doctoral, preferably co-advised / post-doctoral level after 2 years of engagement from the research group of Indian host to the Institute of the VAJRA Faculty for a duration of three to six months will be supported. The board will provide a return economy airfare, a one-time contingency grant of ₹60,000/- and fellowship equivalent to the norms of the Board. 1. Research Contingency Grant to the hosting Indian Collaborator: ₹5.0 lakhs per year of research visit per VAJRA Faculty to the Indian host to meet expenses related to the collaborative research will also be provided. 1. Support to engage VAJRA Faculty to give lectures in his/her area of expertise in the host Institute: Support to VAJRA Faculty to the tune of ₹1.0 lakh per year for this activity will be provided.
